The Social Club

Founded and run by the husband and wife duo Renée Douros and Glen Vickers, The Social Club was born from the frustration the couple felt while planning their own wedding. Struggling to find an aesthetically pleasing venue that offered total flexibility in Canberra was near impossible. So, when the 'Douros Building' (constructed by Renee's grandfather in the 1950s) became vacant, Renée and Glen got to work, converting the space into a two-story, blank canvas venue for hire. The Social Club opened its doors in November 2017 and is an architecturally designed space that rivals anything you'd find in cosmopolitan cities like Sydney, New York, and Paris. The Social Club is able to cater for a range of events—anything from an intimate birthday party, a work conference, a product launch to a full-scale wedding. The Social Club takes everything that annoys people about event venues and flips it on its head. Hiring a venue is synonymous with compromises like outdated carpet and furniture, hire time and decoration restrictions, catering obligations, no open flame—the list goes on.
