Description
Miss Ladybird Cakes is the vision of Gina, a passionate baker whose journey began in a small farming community near the sea in New Zealand. Growing up surrounded by fresh, seasonal produce and the warmth of homemade food, Gina’s love for baking was ignited by childhood memories of family dinners filled with pumpkin scones, sugary rice pudding, and the mesmerizing sight of her Granny Lorna decorating intricate fondant-iced cakes.
From an early age, creativity was at the heart of everything she did. Encouraged by her mother, she spent her days crafting, painting, and, most importantly, baking her way through stacks of cookbooks borrowed from the local library. It wasn’t long before she realized her passion lay in the kitchen rather than the classroom. Leaving school early, she dedicated herself to learning the craft, eventually becoming a qualified chef and working in award-winning restaurants.
Her culinary journey took her to Edinburgh, where she honed her skills in historic kitchens, baking hundreds of scones at Edinburgh Castle and managing venues for a top hospitality group. Inspired by European flavors and traditions, she made her way to Melbourne—a city renowned for its food, wine, and dynamic hospitality scene. Here, she immersed herself in various industry roles, but her dream was always to create something of her own.
With a fearless leap of faith and an unwavering passion for baking, Miss Ladybird Cakes was born. Today, the business embodies Gina’s lifelong love of quality ingredients, artistic creativity, and the joy of sharing beautiful, delicious cakes with others.
