After migrating to Australia in 1949, Angelo set his sights on bringing traditional Italian baking to Sydney. By 1962, Mezzapica Continental Cakes had become the go-to destination for Italian desserts, establishing its legacy in the heart of ‘Little Italy,’ Leichhardt.
The business flourished under Angelo’s expertise, and in 1977, he passed the torch to his nephew, Frank Portelli, who had trained under him for years. Frank continued to grow Mezzapica, and after a brief change in ownership, he and his family repurchased the business in 2000, ensuring its traditions remained intact.
Today, Mezzapica blends generations of heritage with modern innovation, offering exquisite birthday, wedding, and specialty cakes alongside its signature Italian sweets. With a strong commitment to quality, Mezzapica has expanded its reach, supplying cafés, bars, and restaurants across Sydney, while maintaining the time-honored recipes and craftsmanship that have defined the brand for over six decades.
